Joan C. King, Ph.D.

Joan C. King received her undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Dominican College, her M.S. degree from the University of New Orleans, and her Ph.D. in Neurosciences and Psychology from Tulane University.

Dr. King joined the faculty at Tufts University School of Medicine in 1979. During her twenty years at Tufts, she directed the medical neurosciences course and a research lab that focused on hypothalamic neurons that synthesize a peptide critical to reproduction.

A recipient of a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Career Development Award, Dr. King's research was funded both by NIH and the National Science Foundation (NSF).

As Chair of the Department of Anatomy and Cellular Biology, she created and financed a multimedia resource center. Dr. King, together with a group of researchers, created and functioned as director of the NIH-funded Center of Excellence for Research in Reproduction.

At the national level, Dr. King chaired the Population Research Committee, an advisory committee for the National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development, and several Committees of Visitors to NSF. Currently, Professor Emerita Tufts University School of Medicine, Dr. King serves as Past President of Women in Neurosciences and on the Training and Development workgroup for the Society for Neuroscience Strategic Plan.

“Dr. King took early retirement to found her first business "Beyond Success", an individual coaching program devoted to enhancing people's potential and including expressing their highest levels of creativity. She also develops and presents workshops and speaks publically on selected topics.”

Dr. King recently published "Cellular Wisdom" which articulates her coaching philosophy and style of interaction. She is currently collaborating with Dr. Lenhart in “Transition Pathways” which provides comprehensive support for individuals in major transition.

Dr. King lives with her husband and two cats in Loveland, Colorado.
